The Salles Lab

Arghavan Salles, MD, PhD (she/her)
Professional Profile

Dr. Salles is the lead researcher and Principal Investigator of this lab. Her dissertation focused on the stereotype that men are better surgeons than women and how that stereotype affects women training to become surgeons. Her clinical training was in general surgery with a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. She is a clinical associate professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Stanford University’s Department of Medicine.

Tiffany K. Do (she/her/hers)

Tiffany Do is the research assistant for the E-STOP project. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology with an emphasis on Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. As a pre-med student driven by commitment to advancing health equity, she has volunteered in underserved communities locally and abroad, including Fiji and Vietnam.  Through her work in this lab, she is eager for the opportunity to continue developing new skills and contributing to E-STOP’s mission of creating safer and more inclusive workplaces.

Emily Mastej, PhD (she/her) 
Professional Profile

Dr. Mastej is a Senior Biostatistician for The Quantitative Sciences Unit at Stanford University. Emily received her Ph.D. in Computational Bioscience from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Her thesis work focused on high dimensional mediation methods and their application to transcriptomic data. She also focused on data visualizations to aid in mediation result interpretation. Additionally, Emily has participated in a variety of projects ranging from COPD biomarker discovery using multi-omic networks to scoring bronchiectasis in lung imaging using machine learning methods.

Lynn Fiellin, MD (she/her)
Professional Profile

Dr. Fiellin is a Professor, Biomedical Data Science, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice, and the Department of Medicine, the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health at Geisel School of Medicine/Dartmouth College. She is also Founding Director of the NIH-funded play2PREVENT Lab where she and her team develop, evaluate, and implement evidence-based videogames as interventions targeting a range of outcomes.

Jennifer Joy Freyd, PhD (she/her)
Professional Profile

Dr. Freyd is Professor Emerit of Psychology at the University of Oregon and Founder and President of the Center for Institutional Courage. Freyd introduced the concepts of “institutional courage,” “institutional betrayal,” “DARVO,” and “betrayal trauma.”

Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil (she/her)
Professional Profile 

Dr. Jagsi is the Lawrence Davis Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University. Author of over 450 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including multiple high-impact studies in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, and JAMA, her research to promote gender equity has been funded by multiple R01 grants and a U54 from the National Institutes of Health as well as independent grants from philanthropic foundations.

Douglas K. Owens, MD, MS (he/him)
Professional Profile

Dr. Owens is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Policy in the School of Medicine, and Director of Stanford Health Policy in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. He is Co-Director of the Stanford Fellowship in Health Service Research funded by a T32 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Michael Flood, PhD (he/him)

Dr. Flood, a Professor at Queensland University of Technology's (QUT) School of Justice, focuses his research on gender, sexuality, and interpersonal violence, with a current emphasis on engaging men in violence prevention and exploring issues of men, masculinities, and gender justice. Eldrin F. Lewis, MD, MPH (he/him)
Professional Profile

Dr. Lewis is a board-certified, fellowship-trained specialist in cardiovascular medicine. He is the chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and a professor of cardiovascular medicine. Dr. Lewis is committed to diversity and inclusion and expanding Stanford clinical research initiatives.
